Shopify import error: "Validation failed: getaddrinfo: nodename nor servname provided, or not known"

What it means: An image cell holds something Shopify cannot download: a file name such as tee.jpg, a path on your computer, a link without https://, or a link with spaces. Shopify fetches every image from the internet during import, so it needs a full public link.

Shopify product import

The product CSV you are about to import into Shopify, or the one Shopify just rejected.

Your file stays on this device

It is read and converted by this page, inside your browser. Nothing from the file is uploaded, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

How to fix it

  1. Replace each listed image value with a full link that starts with https:// and opens the image in a browser.
  2. Images on your computer must be uploaded somewhere first (Shopify Files works) and the link pasted in.

Example

A file with this problem

Title,URL handle,Status,Option1 name,Option1 value,Price,Inventory tracker,Inventory quantity,Continue selling when out of stock,Fulfillm...
Cotton Tee,cotton-tee,active,Size,S,20.00,shopify,5,deny,manual,images/tee.jpg

What the checker says about it

  • Line 2: image "images/tee.jpg" is not a full public link (it must start with https:// and contain no spaces). Shopify reports "Validation failed: getaddrinfo..." for links like this.

Once the listed rows are fixed, check the file again; the checker also looks for every other problem Shopify documents, so you do not trade one error for the next.
