Shopify import error: "Missing or stray quote on line"

What it means: Same cause as "Illegal quoting": a quote mark opens a cell that never closes, or sits in the middle of an unquoted cell. Shopify then reads the rest of the file as one long cell.

How to fix it

  1. Go to the line the checker names and close or double the quote.
  2. If the quote is part of a measurement such as 12" frame, write it as 12"" inside a quoted cell, or write in for inches.

What the checker says about it

  • A quoted field that starts on or after line 3 is never closed. The file may be cut off or have a stray double quote. Shopify reports this as "Illegal quoting" or "Missing or stray quote".

Once the listed rows are fixed, check the file again; the checker also looks for every other problem Shopify documents, so you do not trade one error for the next.
