WooCommerce import error: "The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini."

What it means: This message comes from WordPress and PHP. Your server has an upload size limit, shown as "Maximum size" on the WooCommerce import screen. A CSV larger than that limit never reaches WooCommerce. WooCommerce's own documentation says this limit is set at the server level.

WooCommerce product import

The product CSV you are about to import into WooCommerce (Products, Import), or the one that just failed.

Your file stays on this device

It is read and converted by this page, inside your browser. Nothing from the file is uploaded, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

How to fix it

  1. Split the file into smaller files, keeping each variable product and its variations in the same file, and import them one after another.
  2. Or ask your host to raise upload_max_filesize and post_max_size.
  3. Or upload the file to your server's uploads folder and enter its path under "Show advanced options" on the import screen.

Once the listed rows are fixed, check the file again; the checker also looks for the other problems in WooCommerce's import code, so you do not trade one error for the next.
