WooCommerce import error: "Invalid product tax status."

What it means: The "Tax status" column only accepts taxable, shipping or none (true and false are read as taxable and none). Words such as "yes", "VAT" or "standard" make WooCommerce fail the row. A tax rate name belongs in "Tax class", not here.

How to fix it

  1. Write taxable, shipping or none on each listed row.
  2. Put tax class names such as "Reduced rate" in the "Tax class" column instead.

Example

A file with this problem

Type,SKU,Name,Published,Visibility in catalog,Tax status,In stock?,Stock,Regular price,Images,Parent,Attribute 1 name,Attribute 1 value(s...
simple,MUG-1,Mug,1,visible,standard,1,5,12.00,,,,,

What the checker says about it

  • Line 2: "Mug": Tax status "standard" is not allowed, so the row fails with "Invalid product tax status." Use taxable, shipping or none.

Once the listed rows are fixed, check the file again; the checker also looks for the other problems in WooCommerce's import code, so you do not trade one error for the next.
